Introduction
Welcome to this consultation response on the UK’s AI management essentials framework (known as “AIME”). AIME is a proposal from the UK government which creates a 10 step framework to good AI governance. It is a resource that is designed to provide clarity to organisations around practical steps for establishing a baseline for good practice for managing AI systems that they develop and/or use. The consultation was open from 6 November 2024 to 29 January 2025.
The Cripps consultation team
The Cripps consultation group was made up of 49 participants. The participants included representatives of very large corporate entities (mostly PLCs or international brands), educational institutions, small-to-medium sized enterprises some of whom had specialisms in AI development and support and some of whom did not. About half of the contributors were qualified legal professionals. Due to the size of the participant cohort, 4 sub-groups were created to help more detailed and nuanced discussion of the issues set out in the consultation request.

Part one
Part one of this consultation response sets out our answers to questions 2 to 4 of the AIME consultation questions which were considered by all four sub-groups.

Part two
Part two of this consultation response contains our answers to questions 5 to 9 of the AIME consultation. We decided to allocate these questions between each sub-group to help provide more detailed feedback on specific sections of AIME.

Part three
Part three of this consultation contains our response to questions 10 and 11 of the AIME consultation which we considered were essentially asking the same thing. All sub-groups provided input on the answers to these questions.
